New inbound charter flights from Austria and Spain land at Belfast International Airport

Published: 31 May 2013

Austrian Airlines has launched a brand new charter series into Belfast from Austria operating in May and June using an Airbus A320.

The new programme from both Vienna and Innsbruck has been organised by Austrian tour operator Raiffeisen Reisbüro.  The link is expected to deliver over 1,000 Austrian visitors to Northern Ireland who will commence their stay enjoying the fresh and fast-developing Northern Ireland tourism landscape, before travelling around the island for the remainder of their week-long stay visiting other key tourist attractions.

In addition, a Spanish inbound tour operator has just recently completed a series of charters from Valladolid, in Northern Spain, to Belfast, bringing in almost 1,000 Spanish tourists.

Uel Hoey, Business Development Director at Belfast International Airport said, “We wholeheartedly welcome the introduction of these flights from Austria and hope that the Austrian holidaymakers enjoy all that Northern Ireland is proud to offer.

These flight programmes from Austria and from Spain mark a significant step forward in opening up Northern Ireland’s tourism offer to the mass mainland European market, in the recent aftermath of our designation as ‘a must-see destination’ in numerous high-profile, global publications and websites.

This is “our time, our place” – the portal for Northern Ireland to maximise these opportunities and to clinch direct services from key European markets on a year round basis, which will help to drive economic and social benefit for our entire community.”

Niall Gibbons, chief executive of Tourism Ireland, said: “The introduction of this new service from Austria is welcome news indeed; it will certainly expand travel options for Austrian holiday and business travellers who wish to visit the island of Ireland.”
