Giants EI 2nd anniversary

Aer Lingus hits 1.5 million mark as it celebrates second anniversary

Published: 10 December 2009

Aer Lingus announced today that it has sold over one and a half million seats from Belfast International Airport in the two years since operations began on December 10, 2007.

To thank customers for their ongoing support and loyalty, the airline has announced a 20 per cent sale on all flights, booked before midnight on December 10, out of Belfast International.
The sale will offer big reductions on flights to Munich and London Heathrow as well as top winter sun destinations Malaga, Tenerife and Lanzarote. Travel must take place between January 6 and March 24, 2010.

Christoph Mueller, the airline's new Chief Executive said; "Our Belfast base continues to exceed our targets and is clearly delivering real choice, value for money, and competition in the market place.

"We've listened to what our customers have been telling us and they in turn have been voting with their feet. They love our low fares, high quality service offering," he said.
"The results speak for themselves - one and half million passengers in just two years, indeed two of the most challenging years for the airline industry; the recent launch of a fourth daily flight to London Heathrow; the new Alicante service which begins at the end of March 2010; and the Best Low Fare Airline 2009 accolade at the NI Travel and Tourism Awards."
Mr Mueller added that during the last 24 months Aer Lingus has made a major impact on the economy of the region, investing more than £100 million and employing more than 100 at its base at Belfast International Airport.
"Despite the figures, we know there are many thousands more out there who are yet to try our award winning service and that's what's really exciting - there is still plenty of room to grow.
