Five-Star Belfast International Airport Sweeps the Boards!!
Published: 25 October 2007
It was a 'high five' for Belfast International Airport as the company won the Special Achievement Award at the 16th Northern Ireland Travel and Tourism Awards in the Slieve Donard Resort and Spa, Newcastle.
The Northern Ireland Special Achievement Award recognised
continuing rapid growth at the airport, which now has more than 40
direct scheduled services to the Continent and North America, and
the major decision recently announced by Aer Lingus to make Belfast
International its European base, stationing three aircraft and
launching nine routes from the airport over the next few
months.
The Northern Ireland Travel and Tourism Awards gala was again
hosted by TV personality Angela Rippon, with 26 different awards
handed over in the various categories.
The champagne euphoria continued as airlines based at the airport
also picked up a number of key awards, easyJet receiving the Best
Low Fare Airline accolade and Continental Airlines securing the
award for Best Worldwide Airline. Meanwhile MyTravel Airways
were awarded Best Charter Airline and Debbie Abbott, the Jet2.com
Station Manager at BFS received the award for Travel & Tourism
Personality of the year.
Other airport tour operator customers also had a very successful
evening with Falcon Holidays completing a double - taking the
prestigious honour for the Best Package Tour Operator and the Best
Sales Support to the NI Travel Trade. Topflight won best ski
operator for the fifth year in a row while American Holidays were
named Best Specialist Operator and Siobhan Boskett was voted Travel
Trade Representative of the Year, making the night a huge success
for everyone.
John Doran, Managing Director, Belfast International Airport, said,
"Obviously we are delighted to receive this award and would like to
congratulate all our airline customers and tour operators for their
well deserved accolades. These awards clearly demonstrate
that Belfast International Airport provides passengers with the
destinations they want to go to, when they want to go, all directly
from their local airport."
