Belfast-Abu Dhabi direct service likely?

Belfast International Airport has said that it fully supports the comments of the Enterprise Minister and Invest NI concerning the possibility of establishing a new direct Belfast to Abu Dhabi service.
The ‘Belfast Telegraph’ yesterday (26/4/12) quoted Alastair Hamilton, Invest NI Chief Executive as saying that “there is a fairly high chance it will happen”.
The Economy Minister, Arlene Foster, told the newspaper’s Political Editor, Liam Clarke: “This will help to improve Northern Ireland’s competitiveness and will ultimately benefit the promotion of business linkages, enterprise development and in-bound tourism”.
Responding, Belfast International said:
“Belfast International Airport is aware of and fully supports the comments of the Minister for Enterprise Trade and Investment and the Chief Executive of Invest NI, and is working to bring about a satisfactory conclusion.
“There is no doubting the significant economic benefits that would flow from such a direct link, but there is some way to go before we can be certain of a positive outcome.
“A west-east link opens exciting new tourism and business opportunities and we are delighted to see that what we have been campaigning on for some time has been embraced by Government.
“The decision on Air Passenger Duty (APD) is opening doors for Northern Ireland. Collectively, we must ensure that the advantage it gives us is fully exploited for the local economy”.
