Belfast International put out its own red carpet for the arrival home of Northern Ireland’s hottest movie property, Oscar winners Terry George, and his daughter, Oorlagh.
Clutching their coveted Oscars for the Best Live Action Short Film, the ecstatic father and daughter touched down on the scheduled United flight from Newark shortly before 9am.
Once through the usual checks, Terry and Oonagh entered the Arrivals Hall to a warm welcome from waiting well-wishers and media.
The airport laid out its own red carpet for the famous creators of ‘The Shore’ which featured Ciarán Hinds, Maggie Cronin and Conleth Hill.
‘The Shore’ was written and directed by Terry and produced by Oorlagh and was filmed mostly on location in Killough in County Down.
Belfast International Airport Business Development Director, Uel Hoey, was on hand to escort the couple through the Arrivals Gate.
Said Mr Hoey: “Oorlagh and Terry have given all of us involved in tourism a really big lift. Not only do we have the best golfers in the world, but we now proudly boast two of the most renowned and internationally acclaimed movie makers.
“’The Shore’ shows the world what we are capable of achieving in Northern Ireland, and I’m delighted to be one of the first to congratulate Oorlagh and Terry on their triumphant return home.
“They have done us proud. Terry and the cast and crew filmed at the airport as part of a homecoming scene in the movie and we were delighted to have facilitated them. We look forward to Terry’s next movie and he knows that if he wants to use this facility, he has only to lift the ‘phone’.”
