Travelling with Children

We appreciate that travelling with children can be challenging at the best of times so here is some information to ensure that you have a smooth journey through the airport.

Before you Travel

  • Be prepared by ensuring that all of your travel documents are to hand.Make sure your hand baggage meets security requirements and keep everything you need for your flight in your carry on luggage.

  • For the best value and secure on site parking with a drop off at the terminal, pre book our long stay car park. Prices start from £3.49 per day.
  • We also offer an offsite car park which is located directly opposite the main entrance to the airport. It is a 2 minutes transfer by shuttle bus from the terminal. Park and Fly prices start from £3 per day and can be prebooked at

 At the Airport

  • Security

All carry on baggage and child relateded equipment must be screened by the x-ray machine. If any of your equipment does not fit through the x ray machine, security agents will visually and physically inspect it. Infants must be removed from the equipment and carried through the x ray machine.

Under current security regulations  Liquid medicines, baby milk and related products in containers of a maximum volume of 100ml MUST be held within a 1 litre bag clear bag. Liquid medicines, baby milk and related products in containers greater than 100ml, but considered necessary for the trip, can be placed in hand luggage but will be subject to a separate verification process.

Baby Changing Facilities

Baby change facilites can be found in the check in hall, the main arrivals hall located on the ground floor, in the domestic departure lounge at gates 10-14 and in the International departure lounge, in addition there is one located adjacent to the Strangford Kitchen and Grill.

The Strangford Kitchen and Grill offer a dedicated children's menu to suit all tastes.

Burger King is a real favourite with our younger passengers.

All food outlets provide high chairs and have facilities for warming baby bottles just ask the staff for details. All food outlets will provide hot water for customers in a suitable container depending on requirements and subject to safety precautions. Please note that due to safety precautions, staff are unable to use microwaves to warm baby food or milk.

Retail Outlets

Superdrug stock a wide selection of essential items for travelling with children including nappies, baby milk and medicines.

Superdrug at Belfast International Airport is making travelling with babies easier this summer.  If you need ready to drink infant milk for your baby for your holiday, you can pre-order it before you travel and collect it from Superdrug after security check in, giving passengers greater space in their hand luggage for other essentials.

All you have to do is call the superdrug store at Belfast International Airport on 028 9447 0596  a minimum of 6 days before you travel and let them know the type and quantity you require and when you are flying.

Aelia Duty Free stock a fantastic selection of soft toys, games, dolls and confectionary.

WH Smith stock a wide selection of colouring and activity books, childrens magazines, toys, sweets and not forgetting the adults they have an extensive range adult reading material.

On Board the Aircraft

Contact your airline in advance to see what they offer onboard for children, such as sky cots, food and entertainment.

Ask whether you can reserve seats in advance , so you can guarantee that you are all travelling together as a family. Flying during daytime hours may be preferential to avoid tiredness and disrupting children's daily routines.
